From 1959-1972, the city of Detroit changed the sound of American music forever. It was a new brand of popular music that introduced artists like, Diana Ross and the Supremes, The Temptations, The Four Tops, Stevie Wonder, The Jackson 5, Marvin Gaye, Martha and the Vandellas, Gladys Knight & The Pips, and Lionel Richie to the world. Their sound was a new style of soul music with a distinct American pop influence. It was a sound that transcended class, race and nationality.
Now, four decades later, Classic M is a new concert that celebrates the Detroit sound with a group of the most talented young performers in the country performing songs with the same passion and unbridled joy as the original artists. They are backed by a seven-piece band playing the original arrangements of the classic hits.
The show takes you on a musical journey where a group of eight performers dance, sing, and recreate the energy and excitement of the original performances. This is not a tribute show where the performers impersonate well-known singers and bands. Instead, it is a new generation of artists reinterpreting the original music with a verve and energy not seen in generations.
